Liberty Mutual Group’s Edmund F. Kelly retired from active management of the company on June 28, 2011. David H. Long replaced Kelly as president and CEO. Kelly will continue to serve as chairman of the board of Liberty Mutual Holding Co.

Long has served in various leadership positions at Liberty Mutual Group over his 25-year career with the company. Most recently he was elected president in June 2010. Prior to that, he was president of Liberty International. Other positions at Liberty Mutual included serving as president, Commercial Markets, and as chief operating officer in National Market.

Long was also a founding member of what is now Liberty Mutual Agency Corp., where he was involved in the acquisitions of Golden Eagle, Summit, Peerless Insurance, Indiana Insurance and Colorado Casualty. Long began his career at Liberty Mutual Group as a financial analyst in National Accounts.

Kelly joined Liberty Mutual in 1992 as president and chief operating officer, and was elected CEO in 1998. He was elected chairman of Liberty Mutual Group in April 2000.

Kelly is also a member of the board of governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America; a member of the boards of The Bank of New York Mellon Corp., the EMC Corp., the American Ireland Fund, the Insurance Information Institute; and he serves on various other community and education boards. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

John M. Huff, director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration, was elected as vice president of the Midwest Zone of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. In this position, Huff will serve on the NAIC’s Executive Committee, the leadership body for the national association.

The Midwest Zone includes Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, North and South Dakota, Michigan and Ohio.

Willis North America, a unit of Willis Group Holdings, appointed Jana Rucker as director of Marketing for Willis Commercial Network – North America in Chicago. Rucker will be responsible for leading the promotional marketing, communications and industry relations activities for the unit. She will report to Ralph Blust, executive vice president of Willis Commercial Network.

Rucker comes to Willis from Crump Insurance Services Inc., where she was vice president of Marketing Communications for seven years. Prior to Crump Insurance Services Inc., she worked for 15 years in the telecommunications industry in various senior sales and marketing leadership roles with Sprint and AT&T.

Teri Morante was named senior deputy commissioner in the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation (OFIR) by Commissioner Kevin Clinton.Morante will oversee the Consumer Services, Licensing and Product Review and Policy Divisions.

Morante most recently served as assistant vice president for regulatory and government affairs at Citizens Insurance Co. in Howell, Mich. Before joining Citizens, Morante was with the Michigan’s insurance bureau. He has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance and legislative fields.

Bob Devereaux joined the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission as fraud prevention and efficiency controller. He previously was in the private sector where he held a variety of positions in accounting, finance, operations, internal audit and internal controls.

Prior to joining the Commission, Devereaux was the director of an international division of a major corporation focusing on operational methods and procedures, and administrative and programmatic activities.
