St. Petersburg, Fla.-based LIG Marine Managers announced that Richard C. Zolty has joined LIG as senior ccnsultant and longshore insurance development director. Zolty has 40 years of underwriting experience in workers compensation and longshore insurance. He has held management positions with various insurance companies including ACE USA. He is a member of the board of director of the California Workers’ Compensation Institute.

Chris McLeod has been named as president of the High Point, N.C.-based Smart Choice Agents Program. As president, McLeod will supervise all sales and servicing roles within the company, facilitate agency development with partner agencies and carriers. The Smart Choice Agents Program provides independent agents with markets, training and support. McLeod brings 40 years of industry experience to her new role. She has served as vice president of professional development for the Independent Insurance Agents Association of North Carolina.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has elected its 2012 officers. Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin M. McCarty will serve as president, and Louisiana Insurance Commissioner James J. Donelon will serve as president-elect.

Other officers include: vice president, North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm, and secretary-treasurer, Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica J. Lindeen.

The new officers will assume their duties on Jan. 1, 2012.

McCarty became Florida’s first appointed insurance commissioner in January 2003. He began his career in public service in 1988, working on workers’ compensation issues with the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security.

Donelon was appointed Louisiana insurance commissioner in February 2006 and has been elected three times to the position. He is a retired state judge advocate for the Louisiana Army National Guard.

Hamm was appointed North Dakota commissioner in October 2007 and was elected to a four-year term in 2008. Lindeen was elected commissioner of securities and insurance and Montana state auditor in 2008.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury appointed 15 individuals to serve as members of the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance. The committee will provide advice to Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office, which was established as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. “These individuals have tremendous knowledge about the insurance industry and a wide cross-section of experience,” said Michael McRaith, director of the FIO.

Nearly half of the committee is comprised of state insurance regulators. There are no state lawmakers on the panel.

The 15 individuals appointed include: David Birnbaum, economist and executive director, Center for Economic Justice; Michael Consedine, Pennsylvania insurance commissioner; Jacqueline Cunningham, Virginia insurance commissioner; John Degnan, senior advisor to the CEO of the Chubb Corp.; Brian Duperreault, president and CEO, Marsh & McLennan Cos.; Loretta Fuller, CEO, Insurance Solutions Associates; Scott E. Harrington, professor in the health care management, insurance and risk management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Benjamin Lawsky, New York superintendent of financial Services; Thomas Leonardi, Connecticut insurance commissioner; Monica Lindeen, Montana insurance commissioner and state auditor; Christopher Mansfield, senior vice president and general counsel, Liberty Mutual Group; Sean McGovern, director and general counsel, Lloyd’s North America; Theresa Miller, Oregon insurance administrator; Michael E. Sproule, executive vice president and chief financial officer, New York Life Insurance Co.; and Bill White, insurance commissioner, District of Columbia.
