Marsh & McLennan Companies’ CEO Brian Duperreault has been named chairman of the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI). His appointment was confirmed by Federal Insurance Office (FIO) Director Michael McRaith at the committee’s first meeting.

FACI was formed by the U.S. Department of Treasury to provide advice to the FIO, which was created under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. FIO monitors all aspects of the insurance industry and advises the Secretary of the Treasury on major domestic and prudential international insurance policy issues.

FIO was also mandated by Dodd-Frank to prepare a report on modernizing and improving the nation’s insurance regulation. That report was due on Jan. 21, 2012, but is now more than two months overdue.

The 15 members for FACI were announced by the Treasury in November 2011. The members are comprised of insurance industry experts from business, academia, and consumer advocacy groups, as well as seven state insurance regulators.

Duperreault and fellow FACI members will meet several times a year to develop recommendations that will aid FIO in carrying out its duties and authorities.

“I am honored to have been appointed chairman of the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance, and look forward to working with my fellow members to help the Federal Insurance Office serve the public with informed recommendations on issues facing the industry,” said Duperreault.

Duperreault is an insurance veteran with nearly 40 years of experience in the industry. Prior to his current role at Marsh & McLennan, he was CEO of ACE Limited. Duperreault also served in senior executive positions with American International Group and its affiliates. In 2011, he was inducted into the International Insurance Society’s Hall of Fame.

Jacksonville, Florida-based Main Street Group has elected four new officers at the insurer’s recent annual policyholders meeting.

Mark Friedlander has been named as the assistant secretary and director of the insurer’s corporate communications. He is responsible for the company’s communication strategy and its social media sites. Prior to joining Main Street, he was director of public relations at HSBC North America.

Kathy Killgore has been appointed assistant secretary and claims field director. She oversees the company’s no-fault and workers’ compensation claims units. Killgore is based in Main Street America’s Syracuse, N.Y., regional office.

Matt McColley has been appointed to serve as assistant secretary and director of claims technical. He oversees the insurer’s claims handling process including. Prior to joining Main Street, he held worked in claims management at several national insurers including GEICO.

Lisa Murman has been named assistant secretary and director of business technology. Prior to joining Main Street, she worked at Bankers Insurance Group.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based Main Street America operates eight property and casualty insurers that offer a wide range of commercial and personal insurance products. Combined those companies provide coverage to more than 600,000 policyholders in 27 states, representing $900 million in premiums.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies, based in Bala Cynwyd, Penn., announced promotions for three marketing executives.

Brian O’Reilly has been promoted from senior vice president of marketing to senior vice president of the eastern territory. O’Reilly joined Philadelphia Insurance 21 years ago as a marketing representative. In eight years as regional vice president, he has grown Philadelphia Insurance’s metro region from $70 million to $230 million in annual business, the company noted. O’Reilly is based in the company’s Lawrenceville, N.J., office.

Bill Misita has been promoted from vice president of marketing to regional vice president of marketing of the metro region. He has been a member of the Philadelphia Insurance team for over 12 years. He is one of Philadelphia Insurance’s top producers, the company said. Misita is based in the Garden City, N.Y., office.

Kevin McCabe has been promoted from assistant vice president to regional vice president of the metro region. He also started as a marketing representative, joining Philadelphia Insurance in 2004. Since that time, he has taken on additional responsibilities and received successive promotions. He is based in the Lawrenceville, N.J., office.

Philadelphia Insurance is a subsidiary of Tokio Marine Holdings.

Charlotte, N.C.-based AmWINS Group Inc. promoted Matt Szkotak to branch leader of AmWINS Brokerage of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia.

Szkotak has been serving as property manager in the Philadelphia office for the past 10 years and will continue to lead the property brokerage group. His background includes loss control and underwriting at IRI, Reliance, and Travelers; retail brokerage at Johnson & Higgins and RHH; and wholesale brokerage at Stewart Smith, now part of AmWINS.

AmWINS Group is the largest wholesale insurance broker in the United States by premiums placed. The firm is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., and has 87 locations across 21 countries, including 50 in the United States.
