Marsh & McLennan Cos. announced Brian Duperreault will retire as the company’s president and chief executive officer at the year’s end. Daniel S. Glaser, currently the company’s group president and chief operating officer, has been named Duperreault’s successor and will become president and CEO effective January 1, 2013.

Upon his retirement as president and CEO, Duperreault will also retire from the company’s board of directors. Glaser will join the board as a director effective Jan. 1, 2013.

Duperreault is an insurance industry veteran who, over the span of his nearly 40-year career, has held top leadership roles at various firms. Duperreault has been with Marsh & McLennan since 2008, having previously guided Ace Ltd. to become a global multi-line insurance and reinsurance company.

Glaser has served as group president and chief operating officer of Marsh & McLennan Cos. since April 2011, with strategic and operational oversight of both the Risk and Insurance Services and the Consulting segments of the company. Prior to his current role, Glaser served as chairman and CEO of Marsh Inc. (Read more about Marsh & McLennan’s changing of the guard, on page 19.)

Zurich appointed Dan Riordan as CEO of its Global Corporate in North America (GCiNA) business. Based in New York, he will be accountable for the direction, management and performance of GCiNA.

Riordan succeeds Mike Kerner who was appointed CEO of General Insurance division. Riordan has held a variety of roles since joining Zurich in 1997, when he established and led the political risk and trade credit business in Washington, D.C.

York Risk Services Group, a Parsippany, N.J.-based provider of claims-management, specialized loss adjusting and insurance pool administration, recently appointed Rick Stasi as president of its Alternative Risk Solutions division.

Stasi will be responsible for the administration and underwriting associated with alternative risk programs. Previously, Stasi was chief operating officer of alternative risk at Avizent, a company York acquired in 2011.

Woodbury, N.Y.-based brokerage Sterling & Sterling appointed Doreen DiCicco as senior vice president within its newly created Sterling Construction Services of New York. Previously, DiCicco was senior vice president at Aon Construction Services Group/Aon Risk Services.

CMIC, a Glastonbury, Conn.-based carrier offering medical professional liability insurance, appointed Edward Carroll as director of underwriting. Previously, he was a senior underwriting officer at Chubb Specialty Insurance.

Aspen US Insurance appointed Richard Aldorisio as executive vice president of casualty insurance. He is based in New York City. Aldorisio was most recently at Markel Corp., where he was managing director of casualty insurance.

Irwin Siegel Agency appointed Ken Chappell as assistant vice president of business development. He is based in the firm’s corporate office in Rock Hill, N.Y. Previously, Chappell was regional vice president of marketing for Agency Specialty Product Network, an Aon Company.

New Jersey-based Crum & Forster appointed Ahmed Yaknour as chief technology officer. He is based in Morristown, N.J. Yaknour retains his position as vice president and chief information officer for Seneca Insurance, a Crum & Forster unit in New York. He joined Seneca in 1988.

CNA Financial Corp. appointed Cheryl Paton as assistant vice president for umbrella insurance. She is based in New York. She comes from Navigators Management Co., where she was vice president of excess casualty.

Financial services firm BDO USA, LLP appointed John Green as assurance partner in the New York insurance industry practice. Green will be responsible for business development for insurance clients in the northeast region. Previously, he was partner-in-charge of the insurance industry group at public accounting firm Marcum, LLP.
