The Insurance Council of Texas presented Ron Cobb, counsel to the American Insurance Association (AIA), with its Raymond Mauk Leadership Award.

The award is the ICT’s highest honor and is intended to bestow recognition on those whose labor has made a significant difference in the business of insurance.

Cobb was recognized for his major role in helping to reform the Texas workers’ compensation system, resolving premium and maintenance tax issues, and moving the state away from a promulgated rate making system.

Cobb began his career as a personal lines underwriter for USF&G. He subsequently worked at American General.

While working during the day and attending the University of Houston at night, Cobb eventually graduated from the South Texas School of Law.

In 1976, Cobb was hired as regional vice president with the AIA where he assumed responsibility for eight states. Cobb retired as regional vice president in 2003 and began serving as counsel to AIA and other industry organizations.

LevelFirst, a wholesale insurance broker and managing general agency based in Dallas, Texas, announced that Lawana Harris has joined the firm as a senior broker. Harris has 27 years of insurance experience, with 12 of those in excess and surplus lines.

In addition to Dallas, LevelFirst also has offices in Austin and Houston.

Independent insurance wholesaler, All Risks Ltd., announced that Glenn Hargrove and several production teams have joined its organization. Hargrove, hired as managing director, has opened an All Risks branch office in Dallas, Texas.

In addition to Hargrove, the following professionals have joined the All Risks team in Dallas: Paige Addison, brokerage underwriter; Carol Davis, broker; Steven Donovan, broker; Frank Giarrantano, broker; and Tiffany Way, broker.

Houston-based HCC Insurance Holdings Inc. announced that Parthasarathy Srinivasa has joined HCC as senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO).

Srinivasa has 20 years of information technology services experience, primarily in the insurance and financial services industries. He most recently served as group chief technology officer and global CIO, Enterprise Applications at Zurich Insurance Group.

MarketScout, the national electronic insurance exchange and specialty MGA with headquarters in Dallas, named Brian Botwinick as senior vice president of its specialty high net worth underwriting practice.

Formerly a director with Quaker Special Risk, Botwinick is an approved underwriter with Lloyd’s of London and U.S. binding facilities. Botwinick also has held underwriting and marketing positions at Chubb and Atlantic Mutual.

Houston-based Global Special Risks LLC (GSR), part of Ryan Specialty Group LLC, announced that Steven J. England has joined GSR as president and CEO.

England was formerly with Ironshore as executive vice president for U.S. Field Operations for Ironshore U.S.

Frederick C. Burns, Jr. will assume the newly created role of chief underwriting officer.

Global Special Risks has offices in four major energy centers: Houston, New Orleans, Dallas and Calgary.

Specialty insurance brokerage firm, Alliant Insurance Services, promoted senior vice president Todd Hagemeier to executive vice president and managing director of Alliant Healthcare Solutions, the firm’s national healthcare practice.

Hagemeier joined Alliant in 2006 and is based in Dallas. He will lead Alliant Healthcare Solutions’ executive team – Philip Reischman, Freddie Nutt and Janet Hale – who are located in Houston.
