The commercial insurance strategic business unit of Liberty Mutual Insurance appointed Douglas Cauti as senior vice president and chief underwriting officer of its construction practice.

Cauti will lead a unit that serves large general contractors, subcontractors and construction project owners.

The construction practice has almost $500 million in construction premium, according to the company.

W. R. Berkley Corp. named Timothy F. Galvin as president of its subsidiary, Midwest Employers Casualty Co. (MECC). The appointment is effective immediately.

Galvin succeeds Melodee J. Saunders, who has served as the company’s president since 2001. Saunders will remain a key member of the W. R. Berkley team.

Galvin has 30 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry. Most recently, he served as the senior vice president of specialty operations, consisting primarily of national accounts and captives, and as senior vice president of middle market commercial accounts for a leading national insurer.

Based in Chesterfield, Mo., MECC provides excess workers’ compensation insurance on a nationwide basis.

Euclid Managers, an underwriting manager and program administrator based in Itasca, Ill., appointed Chris Golonka as senior vice president and manager of its public entity division.

Golonka was previously vice president of the public entity group at Genesis Management Insurance Services Inc., a subsidiary of General Reinsurance Corp.

Golonka joins Euclid Managers with more than 15 years of underwriting and management experience in the public entity, scholastic and non-profit sectors. Prior to his position at Genesis, Golonka held vice president positions at ACE USA and Munich Re America.

Euclid Managers’ Public Entity Division underwrites property/casualty and professional liability products for municipalities, counties and special service districts throughout most of the United States. Coverage is provided by the Scottsdale Insurance group of companies.

In addition to its Public Entity products, Euclid Managers and its affiliated companies – Euclid Executive Liability Managers and Euclid Specialty Managers – administer various programs in the professional liability and executive protection marketplace.

Indianapolis, Ind.-based property/casualty insurance and employee benefits agency, MJ Insurance, has added four employees in its Indianapolis headquarters.

Joining MJ Insurance are Lisa Thomas, account manager; Erin Fitz, account coordinator; Stephanie Hamil, commercial lines assistant; and Tony Mallette, IT help-desk technician.

Thomas has more than eight years of industry experience. As account manager in the commercial/transportation division she will work to develop marketing strategies for new and renewal accounts. Most recently, Thomas worked at Baldwin & Lyons, Inc. as senior independent contractor specialist.

Fitz brings more than four years of industry experience to her new position as account coordinator in the commercial/construction division. Prior to joining MJ Insurance, Fitz served as technical coordinator at Old National Insurance.

Hamil has a diverse background that has helped hone her organizational and computer skills. As commercial lines assistant she will complete and assist the development of myriad documents for clientele. Most recently, she served as director of operations at Campus Outreach.

Mallette brings more than 10 years of IT experience to his new position as IT help-desk technician. Prior to joining MJ Insurance, he worked as an independent contractor.
