FM Global said Executive Vice President Thomas A. Lawson will succeed Shivan S. Subramaniam as chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

For now, Lawson has been appointed president and he has been elected to the board of directors, effective Aug. 1, 2014. Lawson joined the mutual insurance company in 1979 and was appointed in 2009 to his current position. As president, he will be responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the company.

Subramaniam will retire on Dec. 31, 2014, after 40 years with the company. He will remain chairman of FM Global’s board of directors. Subramaniam was named CEO in 1999.

In addition to Lawson’s move, Executive Vice President Jonathan W. Hall, who joined FM Global in 1980, has been named chief operating officer, effective Aug. 1, 2014. Lawson will oversee FM Global’s insurance operations and insurance staff functions.

FM Global is a Johnston, Rhode Island-headquartered mutual insurance company dedicated to property risk management.

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) announced the appointment of Nancy Grodin as deputy insurance commissioner.

As deputy commissioner, Grodin will oversee day-to-day operations of the MIA, an independent state regulatory agency that regulates Maryland’s $26 billion insurance industry. Appointed associate deputy commissioner in October 2012, she has been serving as the MIA’s designated hearing officer for quasi-judicial hearings.

Prior to being named to that position, Grodin led the MIA’s regulatory oversight of domestic and foreign insurance companies, insurance producers, title agents, public adjusters and bail bonds as associate commissioner of compliance and enforcement.

USI Insurance Services hired Mary Jo Jacobs as vice president and employee benefits advisor. She is based in USI’s New York metropolitan office. With more than 25 years of experience in human resources, Jacobs will apply her benefits knowledge to serve as a producer at USI. For nearly 10 years, Jacobs served as the director of benefits and facilities at MediaOcean LLC, an advertising software development firm.

Richmond, Virginia-based Markel Corp. appointed Tim Pasik as managing director, excess and umbrella, for its product line leadership team. He will be based in Markel’s Red Bank, New Jersey, office and report to Jeff Lamb, executive underwriting officer.

Pasik’s career in the insurance industry spans 26 years. Most recently, he worked for AEGIS Insurance Services as senior vice president of underwriting. Prior to AEGIS, he held management and underwriting positions at General Re.

In addition, Markel Corp. promoted Richard Grinnan to general counsel and secretary. Grinnan succeeds Mike Jones, who has retired. Grinnan joined the company in 2012 as assistant general counsel. Before joining Markel, Grinnan served as deputy general counsel at Alpha Natural Resources.

Masiello Insurance Agency Inc., an independent agency based in New Hampshire, promoted Donna Croteau to president. Croteau, who has been with Masiello Insurance for 33 years, most recently served as the agency’s vice president and general manager.

Masiello Insurance Agency has offices in Keene and Hampton, New Hampshire. Masiello Insurance Agency is the founding member agency of Satellite Agency Network Group Inc. (SAN) and SIAA Inc.

Business Risk Partners, a Windsor, Connecticut-based managing general underwriter, appointed Erinn Coletti as professional liability underwriter.

Previously, Coletti served as a specialty underwriter at The Hanover Insurance Group, where she helped establish its MPL division, creating and maintaining underwriting guidelines and growing its agent base.

Aspen U.S. Insurance said George Kotsiopoulos has joined as vice president, Broker Relationship leader.

Kotsiopoulos joins Aspen U.S. Insurance with underwriting and distribution experience from previous positions at Zurich and American International Group. He will be based in New York and responsible for strategic broker relationships on a regional and national level across Aspen’s U.S. footprint.

IFG Companies hired Michael G. Vought as president of Excess and Umbrella. He will be based in IFG’s New York City office and will be responsible for building and leading IFG’s Excess and Umbrella business through a network of offices across the U.S.

Vought joins IFG after eight years with Markel Corp., where he served as a managing director and product line leader for Excess and Umbrella and Primary Brokerage Casualty. While at Markel, he was responsible for the units’ operating results.

IFG provides property/casualty insurance on both an admitted and non-admitted basis.
