Insurance broker Marsh said David Marino has joined the firm to lead its U.S. Construction Practice.

Marino brings to Marsh 20 years of insurance and construction industry experience. He joins the firm from Aon, where he previously served as regional managing director of the greater New York area. Prior to that, Marino led the New York operations of Allied North America.

As Marsh’s U.S. Construction Practice leader, Marino will be based in New York and report to Don Bailey, head of Global Sales and U.S. Industries. The Marsh construction unit serves more than 1,200 clients and places nearly $1 billion in premiums annually.

Chesapeake Employers’ Insurance Company, the largest writer of workers’ compensation insurance in Maryland, promoted Tammy Johnson to director of the Strategic Business Unit (SBU).

In this position, Johnson and the SBU team are responsible for providing a high level of customer service to governmental and direct sale policyholders throughout Maryland.

Previously, she was a senior attorney in the company’s Legal department. Johnson joined Chesapeake Employers as an attorney in 2005. Her previous experience includes working as a public defender and a claims adjuster.

Massachusetts’ Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers (CAR), the state’s industry-operated residual market and statistical agent for auto insurance, announced that Insurance Commissioner Daniel Judson has approved the CAR Governing Committee’s appointment of Natalie Hubley as the organization’s new president.

Hubley has been serving as CAR’s acting president since this past April when then-President Judson was appointed by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker as the state’s new insurance commissioner.

Hubley has been with CAR for 29 years and previously served as the organization’s vice president of business operations, treasurer and secretary.

Liberty Mutual Insurance promoted Nikki Lankford to vice president for the Metro New York region within the company’s Business Insurance operation.

Based in New York City, Lankford will be responsible for the profitable growth of small to mid-market business in New York City and on Long Island. Working with the company’s appointed independent agents and brokers, Lankford will manage local underwriting operations and territory managers who provide a single point of access to a broad product line for businesses.

Employed with Liberty Mutual since 2004, Lankford most recently was senior underwriting manager for the New York City office where she led a team of 12 staff members in growing the company’s middle market presence.

Aon Risk Solutions, the global risk management business of Aon plc, hired Joe Surette as resident managing director of Boston operations.

Surette succeeds Peter Caine, who left Aon in May to become chief operating officer of Lockton’s St. Louis operations.

Surette joins Aon from Zurich Financial Services, where he was senior vice president and area executive for New England. He also previously served as assistant vice president at the American International Group.

Clark Insurance, an employee-owned independent insurance agency based in Portland, Maine, announced that its board of directors has elected new officers as part of its long-planned internal leadership succession.

Kenneth Ross was elected chairman of the Board of Directors. Ross joined the agency in 1989 and has served as the agency’s president since 2010.

Elected to succeed Ross as president was G. Jeffrey Shaw. Shaw joined the agency in 2004 and most recently served as executive vice president and sales manager.

Jeffrey Lind was elected executive vice president. Lind has served as vice president and also serves as the agency’s treasurer. Lind joined the agency in 1993.

The MEMIC Group, a workers’ compensation insurer in Portland, Maine, hired Marcia Hartt as agency services administrator to enhance MEMIC’s relationship with insurance agencies.

Hartt began her career in insurance in 2003 as a commercial lines account manager at United Insurance, an independent insurance agency in Maine. She achieved the position of director of marketing when she was recruited to join the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2013 as vice president of membership and marketing.

Hub International Limited announced that its subsidiary Hub New England hired Christopher Taylor as senior vice president and marketing executive for Specialty Lines.

Taylor brings directors and officers liability (D&O) expertise to the territory where he will focus on specialty lines growth initiatives including the placement of management and executive liability products for commercial lines clients. He will be based in the Wilmington, Mass., office. Most recently, Taylor was vice president with Aon Risk Services based in the Greater Boston area for over 12 years.
