The Hilb Group, a middle market insurance agency based in Richmond, Virginia, hired David Hobbs as president and chief operating officer.

The title of president was previously held by Chief Executive Officer Robert Hilb and COO is a newly created post. As president and COO, Hobbs will head the agency’s operations team, while CEO Hilb leads the agency’s growth team.

Hobbs most recently was president of Alabama operations for McGriff, Seibels & Williams, a regional insurance brokerage firm owned by BB&T. He also previously served as president of the Alabama region for Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. until it was acquired by the Willis Group in 2008.

The Hilb Group is a portfolio company of Boston-based private equity firm ABRY Partners. The agency has 37 office locations nationwide.

New Day Underwriting Managers LLC, a Hamilton, New Jersey-based specialty intermediary for environmental and construction-related professional liability insurance, promoted Jeff Slivka to president, while Jefferey S. Lejfer will continue as the company’s chief executive officer.

In 2005, Slivka helped launch New Day Underwriting Managers. Since then, he has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer supervising New Day Underwriting Managers’ day-to-day operations and business development efforts.

Clearwater, Florida-based Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company hired Peter J. Hutchinson as director of sales and marketing for Massachusetts and Rhode Island, a new position. He is based in Westfield, Massachusetts.

In this new role, Hutchinson will spearhead Heritage’s move into Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Heritage has applied to expand into these two states in July and its applications with insurance departments are pending. The company said it’s hopeful that it can begin writing in both states in the first half of 2016.

Hutchinson brings more than 30 years of experience working with independent agents in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He most recently served as director of sales for UPC Insurance.

Cross Insurance, a Bangor, Maine-based independent agency with nearly 800 employees and more than 35 offices, promoted Gary Heaslip to the position of president for Cross Insurance’s Rhode Island branch, located in East Providence, Rhode Island.

In his new role, Heaslip will be responsible for all agency operations throughout the state of Rhode Island. Heaslip previously served as an executive at Cross Insurance’s Rhode Island branch.

Brownyard Group, an insurance program administrator based in Bay Shore, New York, promoted Teri Pereira to account manager of the Foundation program, which provides specialized liability insurance to the domestic cosmetics industry. Pereira succeeds Frank Monaco, former program manager of the Foundation program, who retired in October.

In her new position, Pereira is responsible for all underwriting and account servicing within the Foundation program. She joined Brownyard 13 years ago and most recently served as underwriting assistant.

Partners Insurance Group LLC hired Bernard J. McDonald V as a licensed broker and producer. McDonald is responsible for developing new business and creating customer relationships.

Based in Swansea, Massachusetts, McDonald is a fully licensed property/casualty broker. McDonald previously worked at Meditech, a healthcare software firm in Fall River, Massachusetts, where he coordinated projects with the IT departments of hospitals across the country.

Partners Insurance Group is an independent agency with offices in Fairhaven, Fall River, New Bedford, Somerset and Swansea, Massachusetts; and Tiverton, Rhode Island.

The fall marks a new administrative year for Insurance Agents & Brokers Service Group in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and its partnership of agents’ associations in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The organization held elections for directors at its annual meeting in October. Each director will serve a three-year term.

Delaware Association of Insurance Agents & Brokers members reelected E. Stephen Burnett to their board of directors. Burnett is executive vice president of IFS Insurance in Wilmington, Delaware.

Bryan C. Hanes of Antietam Insurance Associates in Hagerstown, Maryland, was elected to the board of directors by members of Insurance Agents & Brokers of Maryland.

Insurance Agents & Brokers of Pennsylvania members elected David C. King and reelected April E. Ressler and Joseph R. Pastor to their board of directors. King is president and CEO of Horst Insurance in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Ressler owns Teeter Group in Altoona, Pennsylvania; and Pastor is president of Barr’s Insurance in Oil City, Pennsylvania.
