Alfa Insurance promoted Tommy Coshatt to EVP of Operations, replacing Steve Rutledge, who recently retired following 33 years of service.

According to President Jimmy Parnell, Coshatt, who most recently served as SVP of P&C Underwriting, has worked with all departments in the organization to develop profitability plans for Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

Coshatt began his career with Alfa as an agent in Hoover, Ala., in 2006 and was promoted to district manager in 2009. He later served as vice president of South Alabama Sales before being named senior vice president of P&C Underwriting in 2014. Prior to joining Alfa, Coshatt was manager of Claims Processing for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama for three years. Additionally, he served as director of Human Resources for the Birmingham chapter of American Red Cross for six years and was director of Disaster Services for one year.

Alfa and its affiliates provide insurance and other financial services in 11 states.

Lockton, a privately held, independent insurance broker, has hired JoAnne Steed in its South Florida operation as a senior account executive.

In this role, Steed will be based in Lockton’s Miramar, Fla., office. She will be responsible for client strategy and day-to-day client service on health and welfare plans, benefits administration, benefits financing and structuring employee benefits programs.

Steed has more than 15 years of experience as an account manager and consultant with Mercer, United Healthcare and Sun Life Financial.

Prime Risk Partners announced that Robert C. Smith has joined the company as EVP and chief operating officer.

Smith’s career has focused on agency operations consulting and mergers and acquisitions. As a senior consultant and shareholder with Reagan Consulting, he was part of the team that initially developed the Reagan/IIABA Best Practices Study and worked with Assurex Global and CIAB in the initial development and implementation of the E&O Plus Quality Management Program.

He has participated as an intermediary in more than 50 agency acquisitions – on both the buyer and seller sides – and completed more than 300 consulting assignments with many of the leading agencies in the country. He most recently served as the chief operating officer of a Southwest regional firm.
