Nicholas “Nick” Lorusso has been appointed chief deputy of the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) and Denise Dunckel has been named deputy commissioner of Public Affairs.

Lorusso will manage LDI operations and serve as liaison on legislative issues.

Lorusso is a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 94 in Orleans Parish. While in the Legislature, he served on the Committees for Insurance and Appropriations, as well as chairman of the Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. Lorusso has also served as a board member of the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana.

He is a veteran of the United States Army and currently serves as a Colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Most recently he worked in private practice.

Dunckel most recently was vice president of Public Affairs at the Beer Institute in Washington, D.C. In that role, she was responsible for developing and executing the public affairs and communications strategy for the Institute. In addition to working in corporate communications, Dunckel was previously in management roles at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Fidelis Group Holdings LLC (FGH), with its subsidiary Continental Underwriters Ltd., hired Darrin Huck as vice president of its Marine Division, based in Houston.

Huck is a senior underwriter for the Brown Water Hull, Liabilities and Cargo product lines.

He comes to FGH with more than 30 years of experience in the marine industry, most recently as vice president, Southwest regional manager of Starr Companies. Before joining Starr, Huck was with AIG, Sealand Service Inc. and St. Paul Insurance Co., respectively.

Fidelis Group Holdings is headquartered in Covington, Louisiana.

San Francisco-based EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants added Maurice (Moe) Edwards and Walter Palmer to its team of risk assurance and asset protection professionals in Houston.

This new national practice will operate as EPIC Integrated Risk Solutions with EPIC’s Southwest Region President Jim Watt serving as the team’s executive sponsor.

Edwards joins EPIC as managing principal and brings more than 20 years of experience in a wide range of risk management disciplines. He was most recently senior vice president of enterprise risk for Mattress Firm where he developed a holistic risk management philosophy and a practical, effective delivery system.

Palmer joins the organization as practice leader. He is the founder and president of PCG Solutions and has 30 years of industry experience including 16 years as a practitioner in loss prevention, operations, inventory control and supply chain management.

At PCG, he worked with leading retail companies across the U.S. and globally, delivering a strategic approach to mitigating loss and lowering total cost of risk.

In addition to Palmer, retail loss prevention and supply chain veteran Kevin Ach will join as vice president of risk assurance, retail loss prevention veteran John Schroeder joins as vice president of asset protection, and finance executive Katie Tyrone comes on board as vice president of risk financing.
