Pat Tomlinson
Pat Tomlinson

Pat Tomlinson has been named president of Marsh McLennan’s Mercer and will succeed Mercer CEO Martine Ferland upon her retirement March 31, 2024.

In the meantime, as president, Tomlinson will report to Ferland and have management responsibility for Mercer’s global health, wealth and career practices. Tomlinson will retain his responsibilities as Marsh McLennan US and Canada CEO and Mercer US and Canada president in the near term.

After next March, Tomlinson will take over as president and CEO of Mercer and become vice chair Marsh McLennan. He will join Marsh McLennan’s executive committee and report to John Doyle, Marsh McLennan president and CEO.

Tomlinson has been with Mercer since 2014 and in February he was promoted to CEO of U.S. and Canada. Before Mercer, Tomlinson spent 17 years with Aon and served as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Susan Potter
Susan Potter

Marsh McLennan, headquartered in New York, appointed Susan Potter as U.S. and Canada commercial officer.

Based in Washington, D.C., Potter brings more than 25 years of commercial and public sector consulting, management and leadership experience to her new position. She joined Mercer in 2019 as chief commercial officer for the U.S. and Canada after a 25-year career at Willis Towers Watson.

Bryan Sanders, president of Markel’s Markel Specialty division, plans to retire by Dec. 31, 2024.

Sanders, who joined Markel in 2013 as part of the Alterra Capital Holdings Ltd. acquisition, has more than 42 years in the insurance industry.Effective Dec. 1, Sanders transitioned to the role of chairman, Markel Specialty.

Before becoming president of Markel Specialty in 2020, Sanders served as president of Markel Wholesale from 2014 to 2017, and president of Markel Assurance from 2018 to 2020.

Alex Martin, currently Markel’s chief financial officer, will become president of Markel Specialty.

Brian Costanzo, currently senior vice president and chief accounting officer for Markel Group Inc., will become chief financial officer of Markel.

Martin has been with Markel for 17 years and has held management positions in operations, underwriting, business development, strategy and finance.

Costanzo has been with Markel for 14 years. He has held a variety of leadership roles within finance and has played a key role in leading strategic efforts within finance in regard to operational efficiency, actuarial transformation, technology and data.

Additionally, within Markel Specialty, Guenter Kryszon has been named chief underwriting officer and Ryan Oosterheert has been named chief operations officer.

Kryszon has been with Markel since 2019 and brings extensive experience driving growth and profitability through initiatives relating to portfolio optimization, climate change and environmental, social and governance matters.

Oosterheert, who has been with Markel since 2019, brings more than 20 years of industry experience across underwriting and product management, strategy and operations.

East

Michelle Allen
Michelle Allen

Michelle Allen joined the senior leadership team at Portland, Maine-based MEMIC as senior vice president and chief human resources officer.

Allen has worked in HR since 2007, and in officer level positions for 15 years. Most recently, she served as executive vice president at Androscoggin Bank. Before Androscoggin Bank, she was vice president and human resources manager at Camden National Bank, and a human resources business partner at Acadia Insurance.

Allen replaces Catherine F. Lamson, who retired in June after 23 years with the company.

Stephen Deane returned to The Hartford as chief claims officer after spending last three years at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he served as executive vice president and chief claims officer, Global Risk Solutions, North America.

Prior to Liberty Mutual, Deane was at The Hartford for 16 years in various leadership roles, including senior vice president of Group Benefits and Workers’ Compensation claims. He will report to John Kinney, head of claims and operations, and will be a member of The Hartford’s executive leadership team.

Deane succeeds Mary Nasenbenny, who will retire at the end of 2023. Nasenbenny joined the company in 1999 as legal counsel and was named chief claims officer in 2021.

Inshur, a provider of insurance to the rideshare industry, appointed Lisa Hric as director of U.S. markets. She is tasked with leading Inshur’s nationwide expansion and bolstering the profitability of its portfolio.

Prior to joining Inshur, Hric was senior director of insurance product management at Metromile. Hric also has insurance experience at Farmers, The Hartford and Progressive.

Rokstone appointed Mike Nukk as head of marine.

Nukk was previously head of marine for North America at American International Group (AIG) for about five years.

At Rokstone, Nukk will grow the marine portfolio in North America from a start up to $100 million in five years, focused on middle market North American business.

Nukk has more than 20 years of experience in the marine sector. Before AIG he spent 20 years at Liberty Mutual, serving as its SVP Global Marine practice leader and Marine chief underwriting officer. He spent seven of his 20 years with Liberty working in London as VP, Marine, EMEA at Liberty Special Markets.

Paul Bogdanovich joined Alliant Insurance Services, headquartered in Irvine, California, as senior vice president within its northeast employee benefits group.

Based in Portland, Maine, Bogdanovich has over 35 years of insurance industry and sales experience. Before joining Alliant, Bogdanovich was an executive with Sun Life Financial and a sales manager with The Hartford.

Keith Nyhan
Keith Nyhan

The New Hampshire Insurance Department promoted Keith Nyhan to deputy commissioner. Nyhan has served as director of the Consumer Services unit since 2007.

Nyhan brings 28 years of experience in the financial services and insurance sectors to his new position. Nyhan’s career began in the U.S. Army, where he reached the rank of sergeant. He then joined John Hancock Financial Services in 1997 as a customer service representative and later a compliance director.

He began his tenure at the NHID as the examiner in the Life and Health Market Conduct unit. In his role as director of the Consumer Services unit, he has overseen the recovery of $33 million for consumers.

Midwest

Al Rubosky joined Alliant Insurance Services, based in Irvine, California, as vice president within its employee benefits group. Rubosky is based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Rubosky joins Alliant with over 20 years of experience. Before joining Alliant, Rubosky was an Oswald Companies benefits consultant and a Nationwide client relationship representative.

South Central

Texas Mutual Insurance Company, headquartered in Austin, Texas, promoted two current employees to vice president.

Peppia Sherrouse
Peppia Sherrouse

Peppia Sherrouse is Texas Mutual’s new vice president of claim operations. She previously served as vice president of regional operations in Houston, Texas, and has nearly 30 years in the insurance industry. She joined Texas Mutual in 2013 as a senior manager of regional claims. Before joining Texas Mutual, Sherrouse served as branch manager for CorVel Company and as the southern region claims manager for SeaBright Insurance Company.

Chris Dowling
Chris Dowling

Chris Dowling was named vice president of regional operations in Houston. Dowling has served as a territory management specialist in Austin since February 2020. He joined Texas Mutual in 2018 as a senior territory manager. Dowling began his career in insurance in 2011 with The Hanover Insurance Group, holding positions in underwriting and sales. In 2014, he joined AF Group and moved into monoline workers’ comp insurance.

Southeast

Alliant Insurance Services named Scott Myers vice president of its employee benefits group in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Myers has 15 years’ experience and has worked as a benefits consultant with an insurance, financial services and human resources technology firm, and with a stop-loss carrier.

Myers holds the chartered life underwriter designation, specializing in life insurance and estate planning.

XPT Specialty, a wholesale brokerage with offices in 12 U.S. states, named Mike Jones senior vice president, based at XPT’s newly established Orlando, Florida, office.

Jones will oversee hybrid managing general agency/brokerage placements for contractors, hospitality, product liability and liquor, among others.

Jones began his career at Crump Insurance.

The Florida Surplus Lines Association installed new officers and directors at its recent annual convention, including new President Dave DeMott, of Gridiron Insurance Underwriters.

Other FSLA 2023-2024 board members include President-elect Virginia Clancy, TAPCO Underwriters Inc.; Treasurer Al Geraci, Risk Placement Services; Secretary Tonya Rivera, Johnson & Johnson Inc., of St. Petersburg; Director Darren Marsh, SLB Insurance Group; Director Bresch McCarthy, Hull Jacksonville; Director Amanda Ruppel, CRC Group, Tampa; and Director Chris Siegel, Burns & Wilcox.

Meg McSherry
Meg McSherry

NFP, an insurance broker headquartered in New York, New York, hired Meg McSherry to lead the P/C business in its Atlantic region.

McSherry will support new business and client acquisition and retention and will help manage the region’s commercial P/C account teams. She comes to NFP from Marsh, where she most recently served as U.S. and Canada specialty sales leader.

NFP’s Atlantic region includes much of the Southeastern United States.

West

Angela Alaniz
Angela Alaniz

CRC Group named Angela Alaniz as chief digital officer of its commercial solutions division. Alaniz is based in San Francisco.

Alaniz has been with CRC Group since 2010 and most recently served as senior vice president of digital solutions. She was previously legal counsel associate vice president at Colemont Insurance Brokers, and was an attorney at Dodge, Anderson, Jones, Bezney & Gilman PC.

C3 Risk & Insurance Services, headquartered in San Diego, named Marife Molina executive vice president of strategic revenue. Molina comes to C3 Risk & Insurance Services from Chubb, where she served as senior vice president, regional leader of its San Diego and Orange County personal and commercial lines operations.
