The Most Listened Insuring Cyber Podcast Episodes of 2023

From AI chatbots and insurance to tech burnout in the workplace to managing cybersecurity in e-commerce, Insuring Cyber Podcast listeners were all ears this year as the cyber landscape continued to evolve and impact insurance in new ways.

These are the top five most listened Insuring Cyber Podcast episodes of 2023, according to Insurance Journal’s listener metrics.

1. EP. 63: Navigating the Unknowns with Chatbots and Insurance

Tim Johnson, partner at law firm Browne Jacobson, spoke with Carrier Management’s Elizabeth Blosfield on the number one most listened episode of The Insuring Cyber Podcast for 2023. In this June episode, Tim spoke about how there are things insurers know they aren’t experts at with AI, but can learn along the way, and there are elements of AI that insurers haven’t even conceptualized yet. He discussed the risks and opportunities as insurers work to navigate all of these unknowns.

2. EP. 61: AI, Ransomware, Tech Burnout Biggest Takeaways from Rims’ Riskworld

This May episode of The Insuring Cyber Podcast featured interviews done on site at the 2023 Rims Riskworld conference, where guests shared the biggest takeaways from the event and trends they’re eyeing in cyber risk and tech. Caroline Clouser, executive vice president and north America leader of the healthcare industry practice at Chubb, spoke about what she’s seeing in the healthcare space as the use of tech has ramped up. Later, Paul Bantick, global head of the cyber and tech team at Beazley, shared how he’s seen cyber risks evolve this year and any liability issues that could arise in the future from generative AI.

3. EP. 54: Shopping Safely: Managing Cybersecurity, Insurance in E-Commerce

In this February episode of The Insuring Cyber Podcast, David Emm, senior security researcher at Kaspersky, discussed the cyber risks of online shopping and how they’ve accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic and with current inflationary pressures. Later in the episode, James Moore, entrepreneur and co-founder of InsurTech PorchPals, talked about the more tangible risks of online shopping, such as package theft, and how his business offers insurance coverage for this growing challenge.

4. EP. 66: Understanding the Domino Effect of Cyber Accumulation Risk

While technology is continuing to evolve and provide many benefits to insurers and their customers, one concern is that growing connectivity and dependence on technology means a single cyber event could simultaneously impact a large number of businesses. This is called cyber accumulation risk. On this July episode of The Insuring Cyber Podcast, Tim Zeilman, vice president with HSB, part of Munich Re, discussed how cyber risk modeling will need to change due to concerns about accumulation. Later in the episode, Norman Niami, vice president and actuary at the American Property Casualty Insurance Association and chairperson of the American Academy of Actuaries Cyber Risk Committee, shared how the evolving tech landscape is creating more risk opportunities for insurers and businesses alike.

In this episode of The Insuring Cyber Podcast for Insurance Careers Month in February, Darren McGraw, president at Mechelson Private Client, and Sylvester Mathis, chief insurance officer at Insurity, shared their advice to insurers for recruiting talent and advised new insurance employees on the best ways to build their career. They said that for insurers and insurance professionals alike, the ability to adapt and remain curious in an everchanging industry are important skills.
