Vermont’s Department of Labor says companies enrolled in a state voluntary worker safety program have fewer reports of job-site injuries and illnesses than the national average.
The Burlington Free Press reports two performance measures are tracked: the work site’s total recordable cases in a calendar year and the number of cases that result in an employee missing time from work or having to perform duties that aren’t considered normal.
For 2009, all of the employers recognized by the Green Mountain Voluntary Protection Programs have outperformed the latest injury and illness statistics, including Ben & Jerry’s in St. Albans; United Water NACO in St. Johnsbury; Energizer Battery in Bennington; G.E. Aviation in Rutland; Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee in Vernon; and the Vermont Agency of Transportation district in St. Johnsbury.
