Willis Announces Exec Appointments, Office Expansions in Massachusetts

Willis North America, a unit of global insurance brokerage Willis Group Holdings, announced three executive appointments and office expansions to strengthen its Massachusetts operations and drive growth across the region.

Todd Granger has been appointed executive vice president and human capital practice leader. Granger will work to expand Willis’ footprint in the Massachusetts marketplace and align Willis’ global resources to deliver employee benefit products and services. He joined Willis in 2003 and previously served as senior vice president of the human capital practice. Based in Boston, Granger, will report to Kirk Metcalf, managing partner, Willis of Massachusetts.

Julie Powers has been appointed executive vice president of the property/casualty service team. She will be responsible for managing a service team of approximately 60 professionals supporting Willis of Massachusetts’ international, health care, and complex property practices and related client service and placement operations. Powers joined Willis in 2001 and previously served as executive vice president of the corporate middle market service team. Boston-based, she will also report to Kirk Metcalf, managing partner, Willis of Massachusetts.

Steve Schoenberger has been appointed vice president of the property/casualty middle market production team. He will be responsible for the growth and expansion of Willis of Massachusetts in the commercial middle market space, with a focus on the life science and technology industries. Prior to joining Willis, Schoenberger served as a producer at Mason & Mason Technology Insurance Services Inc. Boston-based, he will report to Michael Feinberg, executive vice president, corporate middle market production team.

In addition to these leadership appointments, Willis announced the expansion and relocation of its Massachusetts operations. In Boston, Willis has expanded its 3 Copley Square property, adding 3,100 square feet of space to accommodate its 5 percent growth in headcount. To serve firms outside metro Boston, Willis also signed a 5-year lease to occupy 8,000 square feet at a facility in Billerica, Mass. This new suburban facility will support the growth of Willis’ small and middle-market business as well as its personal lines business in Massachusetts.

Willis of Massachusetts serves more than 1,900 clients, with 175 associates in its offices. The Boston office houses specialists in complex global risk management, cyber risk and network security, enterprise risk financing, employee benefits consulting, management liability, risk control and claims management. Their focus is on serving mid-to-large companies in a wide range of industries, including construction, general manufacturing, healthcare, life science, higher education, real estate and technology.
