August 29, 2014

NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company, a medical professional liability insurance carrier domiciled in San Francisco, said it is now offering its medical professional liability coverage to healthcare professionals in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The company said it is entering these states offering a new enhanced policy with additional coverage options. Coverage was previously offered by NORCAL Mutual’s subsidiary PMSLIC Insurance Company.

“We are excited to offer our new NORCAL Mutual policy in each of these states and look forward to continuing the longstanding relationships that have been cultivated over the years,” said Ron Rumin, senior vice president of business development for NORCAL Mutual.

“We believe we have crafted a policy that meets the changing needs of today’s medical practices. With enhancements to the information and network security, and administrative defense coverages, coupled with the benefits of being a member of a mutual company, our policyholders can rest assured they’re well covered,” he said.

NORCAL Mutual has been physician owned and directed for nearly 40 years and currently offers coverage to more than 28,000 healthcare professionals nationwide, along with its subsidiary companies PMSLIC and Medicus Insurance Company.

With the company’s entry into Pennsylvania and Delaware, NORCAL Mutual will phase out its presence as PMSLIC over the next year. PMSLIC has served the medical communities of Pennsylvania since 1976 and Delaware for the past 10 years, and was acquired by NORCAL Mutual in 2002.
