Maryland’s new insurance commissioner, Al Redmer, Jr., announced the sale of his agency Redmer Insurance Group LLC to two of the firm’s employees, Partner and Principal Agent Liz Mika and Partner Ann Ansel. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Redmer sold the Baltimore-based business due to his new appointment, which oversees insurance rates and regulations. Ownership of an insurance firm would present a direct conflict to his position in public office, the announcement said.
Redmer opened Redmer Insurance Group in August 2011 and has served as the firm’s president since it’s inception. Redmer Insurance Group is an independent agency providing insurance services to individuals, families, non-profits, municipalities and businesses in the mid-Atlantic region.
Selling the firm internally was the best choice for Redmer, the new owners, and their clients, the announcement said. The firm will continue to operate as Redmer Insurance Group.
Mika and Ansel took over ownership of Redmer Insurance Group beginning March 1. The new owners have over 40 years of combined experience in the insurance and financial services industry and have worked closely with Redmer to ensure a seamless transition for both clients and associates, the announcement said.
