Greater New York Insurance Companies (GNY), a super-regional carrier in commercial property/casualty insurance, announced it will begin issuing policies in Maine beginning May.
“Many New England business owners and property managers have properties in Maine, and we want to help our established producers service that business,” says Elizabeth Heck, GNY’s CEO.
GNY said it will be offering commercial package policies distributed exclusively through independent agents. The company said it is also currently prospecting agents in Maine.
Based in New York City, GNY has more than 100 years of expertise in designing, underwriting and providing insurance products for business owners and property managers. In 2015, the direct premiums written totaled $332 million.
GNY has offices in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. With the addition of Maine, it is now actively selling insurance in 15 states and the District of Columbia.
As a mutual company, GNY operates for the benefit of policyholders, Heck said. “Going into the Maine market was really driven by our existing client base,” she said. The Maine business will be serviced by GNY’s Massachusetts branch office.
