Vermont Town Gauges More Than $200K in Damage from Weekend Storm

July 22, 2021

The town of Brattleboro, Vermont, is reporting more than $200,000 in damage to roads and bridges from a weekend rain storm.

An initial assessment was completed on Sunday, the Brattleboro Reformer reported.

“It’s going to be six figures,” Public Works Director Steve Barrett said Monday. “It’s going to be $200,000 plus.”

He plans to meet with representatives from the Vermont Agency of Transportation to discuss what to do next.

Crews were making repairs on Hinesburg Road, Melchen Road and Akley Road on Monday, stabilizing some areas that washed out, he said.

“The increased intensity of these storms and large rainfall amounts just raise havoc on the old stormwater systems,” he said. “They weren’t constructed for that kind of capacity overload.”
