Connecticut Gov. Lamont Reappoints Mais as Insurance Commissioner

January 5, 2023

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has reappointed a number of commissioners including Insurance Commissioner Andrew Mais to continue serving in his second term in office:

Lamont first nominated Mais in 2019 to oversee the insurance department.

Prior to being approved by lawmakers to be the state’s insurance regulator, Maiz specialized in insurance regulation at the Deloitte Center for Financial Services in Stamford, where he started work in 2011. Prior to that, he was a director at the New York State Insurance Department, where he served four governors as part of the department’s senior leadership team.

Last month Mais was elected by his peers to serve as president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) beginning January 1, 2023.

Mais currently serves on the NAIC’s International Relations, Property & Casualty, and Financial Regulation Standards committees. He also serves on the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Macroprudential and Executive Committees. Mais is also co-vice chair of the NAIC’s Special Executive Committee on Race and Insurance, charged researching and analyzing diversity and inclusion within the insurance sector.

Mais has previously served as chair of the Council on Ethics for the town of Wilton. His other community service includes the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk; the American Red Cross; the board of finance of the town of Wilton; and the Rotary Club.
