Union Reports Cyber Incident May Have Exposed Members’ Private Information

A Ridgefield Park, New Jersey-based labor union for longshoremen, healthcare, maintenance and other workers has reported a cyber incident that may have exposed some members’ private information.

The office for Local 1964, International Longshoremen’s Association, Local 1964 ILA Health & Insurance Fund, and Local 1964 ILA Retirement Fund said certain files stored on its network may have been accessed and acquired without authorization between March 27, 2024 and May 27, 2024. A review of those files, which concluded on September 3, determined that certain individuals’ information may have been affected.

The potentially affected information may include individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health information and health insurance information, and financial account numbers.

While it has no evidence that any information has been misused, the union said it is informing affected individuals about the steps they can take to help protect their information. The union said it mailed a written notification of the incident to impacted individuals on September 10, notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and has implemented additional measures to enhance its network security .

Local 1964 represents workers in multiple states in various industries and professions, including ocean shipping, trucking and warehousing logistics, nurses’ aides, dialysis technicians, building maintenance workers, grocery store and laundry workers.
