Delaware Insurance Commissioner Navarro Wins Primary Election

September 13, 2024

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro won this week’s Democratic primary for the post, gaining more than 70% of the vote versus his rival, Kayode Abegunde.

Navarro was first elected commissioner in 2016. He served for 20 years with the New Castle County Police and was elected New Castle County Sheriff in 2010. While a police officer, he received the department’s distinguished Medal of Valor.

Abegunde, a director at Keystone Human Services and a minister, also ran for the office in 2020.

Navarro will now face Republican Ralph Taylor in the general election in November. Taylor and his wife own a pest control service. He has also served as a police officer, Capital School Board member, and Dover City councilman.
