The British newspaper Sunday Business reported that U.K. insurer Royal & Sun Alliance was considering the sale of the 22 percent stake it holds in NM Rothschild and Sons Ltd. the U.K. branch of the famous international financial institution.
According to newspaper reports Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, who heads the Swiss holding company which controls the Rothschild empire, wants to restructure the company, and bring in international investors.
Royal & Sun is reportedly interested in selling its stake in order to obtain additional funds for investment in its core business.
So far there’s been no comment from the insurer on the rumors, and a spokesman for the Rothschilds called the story “pure speculation.”
