Parts of Mexico and surrounding regions witnessed major destruction from Hurricane Stan earlier this week, with more than 70 people reported dead in Central America.
Formerly a Category 1 storm, the storm was reportedly losing strength on Wednesday over the Mexican state of Oaxaca. High winds, flooding and mudslides were blamed for many of the reported fatalities.
A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean off the Salvadoran coast Tuesday, but there were no reports of injuries or major damage.
Heavy rains resulted in flooding that damaged bridges and submerged highways in other portions of Central America.
Stan also resulted in heavy winds and rain in Oaxaca state, which borders Veracruz.
According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, a weakened Stan would still dump heavy rain on Oaxaca and many other areas of southern Mexico.
