Swiss Re Names Strebel Head to Lead Latin American Unit

Swiss Re announced the appointment of Beat Strebel to head its Latin American unit.

Strebel, who is based in Armonk, New York, is responsible for all of Swiss Re’s Property & Casualty and Life & Health reinsurance business in Latin America. He reports to Patrick Mailloux, COO of Swiss Re Americas.

“With more than 10 years of experience successfully representing Swiss Re in the region, Beat is a perfect fit for this position,” Mailloux stated. “He will ensure both a seamless transition and consistency of strategy in Latin America.”

Directly prior to this position, Strebel was the head of Marketing for the Latin American Unit, where he was responsible for the Property & Casualty business in all Latin American countries.

He joined Swiss Re in 1994 as an account underwriter for the Latin America area in Zurich. From 1996 to 1997, he worked in Madrid, Buenos Aires and Zurich in various functions and projects aimed at the Spanish and Latin American markets. In 1998, he was appointed head of Swiss Re Property & Casualty business in Venezuela and was later transferred to Buenos Aires as head of the regional office servicing Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. In 2002, he moved to Armonk to head the Marketing area for the newly formed Latin American Unit.

Strebel holds a degree in Finance with a specialty in insurance and risk management from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
