March 29, 2006

XL Capital Ltd.’s COO for global insurance operations, David Duclos, announced the appointment of Ronald Berler to its business development team. He will report to Dennis Kane, XL Insurance’s Chief Operating Officer for the Americas.

Berler will be based in Hartford, Conn., and “will coordinate the worldwide delivery of XL Insurance’s products and services to the global energy industry,” said the bulletin. “Property, casualty, professional liability, environmental, power outage, risk management, weather risk and offshore energy products are among the coverages designed to address the risk challenges encountered by oil & gas firms, alternative energy businesses, power generation companies and utilities.”

Duclos commented: “By the very nature of the industry, energy companies face complicated risks. The process of finding solutions to manage those risks need not be so complex. Under Ron’s direction, energy companies and their brokers will receive greater technical support and more convenient access to all of XL’s risk management resources, especially our in-house energy expertise.”

“Ron’s experience as both a broker and an underwriter gives him a comprehensive understanding of the goals and objectives of our energy customers,” he continued. “This knowledge, along with his industry relationships, and his international underwriting experience will be valuable in helping XL Insurance enhance its ability to provide quality risk management services and solutions to the global energy industry.”

Berler’s professional experience includes senior level positions at Benfield, Inc. and Marsh, Inc. As a broker at Marsh, he coordinated insurance programs for various energy, refining, power and industrial placements on a global basis. He spent an additional 30 years at Industrial Risk Insurers, now GE Insurance Solutions Inc., developing his loss prevention and underwriting expertise with clients in the oil and gas industries.
