Liberty Int’l. Opens Hong Kong Office

April 7, 2006

Liberty International Underwriters, a division of Liberty Mutual Group, has opened a North Asia Regional Office in Quarry Bay, Hong Kong.

“The explosive growth of specialty insurance in Asia is underscored by Lloyd’s assessment of the market,” said the bulletin. “By 2007, Lloyd’s predicts marine cargo premium in Asia to break US$1 billion, directors and officers and professional indemnity to reach US$400 million and product liability to grow 27 percent. Furthermore, Lloyd’s expects companies in Asia to increase their use of brokers by 28 percent over the next year.”

“Because of North Asia’s unprecedented infrastructure and export growth, we have seen more than half of our Asian business come from the region,” noted Danny Forsythe, Liberty International’s CEO. “Over the next year, the need for broker services and insurance products in Asia could skyrocket. Having our underwriters centrally located in Hong Kong makes it easier for brokers to harness market opportunities.”

“LIU Hong Kong will help brokers expand their business in Hong Kong, China, Macau, Taiwan and South Korea,” added Alan Dawes, Liberty International’s Sr. VP-Asia operations. “Through LIU, brokers get underwriting discipline, stable capacity and a full line of products in energy and engineering; marine; general liability; and, financial and professional liability.”

Brokers can contact the LIU Hong Kong office at 852-3655-2600 or via e-mail at: hongkong.liu@libertyiu.com. For product line-specific information, ask for the following underwriters directly: Alan Dawes and Echo Hao for energy and engineering; Maggie Wong and Connie Wong for marine; Eddie Young for general liability; and Jason Forsyth and Jaime Asher for financial and professional risks.
