Transatlantic Elects AIG’s Sullivan Chairman; Mayer Joins Board; Other Officers Named

The Board of Directors of Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. elected Martin J. Sullivan as its non-executive Chairman at a regularly scheduled meeting. Sullivan is the President and CEO of American International Group, which owns 59.3 percent of Transatlantic. The Board also elected Diana K. Mayer as a director, and appointed officers at its operating subsidiary Transatlantic Reinsurance Company.

Sullivan replaces Robert F. Orlich, the Company’s President and CEO as Chairman. He has been serving in that post on an interim basis since April 2005, and will continue to serve as President and CEO and as a member of the Board.

Orlich commented: “We are very pleased to have Martin assume a key leadership role on our Board. He brings a broad array of skills and experience to his expanded role as we chart the course for Transatlantic’s future during these challenging, yet exciting, times.”

Sullivan added: “I am pleased to be assuming this role at an important juncture in Transatlantic’s history, as it continues to broaden its footprint in the global reinsurance community. I would like to thank Bob for his Board leadership and look forward to continuing our work together along with the rest of our distinguished Board.”

Transatlantic also announced that Diana K. Mayer, presently an independent consultant, has been elected to its Board of Directors. Before serving as an Independent Consultant, she held the position of Director of Investor Relations at Citigroup Venture Capital, a unit of Citigroup, Inc. She has also held senior executive positions with American Express Company, Citigroup and Goldman, Sachs & Company, among others.

At the meeting the Board also elected Michael C. Sapnar, Executive VP and Chief Underwriting Officer, Domestic Operations. He also assumes that position at Transatlantic Reinsurance Company, a subsidiary of TRH.

In addition the Board of Directors of Transatlantic Re elected the following officers:
San Francisco: Kenneth W. Brandt – Senior Vice President
New York: Craig Lyga – Vice President
Robert Wagner – Vice President
Jennifer A. Brancato – Secretary
Paris: Dominique Lemonnier – Vice President
