Guy Carpenter Beefs Up London Trade Credit/Political Risk Team

Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc., the global risk and reinsurance specialist of the Marsh & McLennan Companies, has beefed up its London-based Political Risk and Trade Credit practice with the addition of six “experienced professionals” to the newly restructured unit.

“Richard Trueman, Seamus Kerr, and Stuart Grant have joined Guy Carpenter from Benfield’s Credit, Bond & Political Risk unit, effective immediately. Mark Chappels has also joined Guy Carpenter from Transatlantic Reinsurance Company, where he was a Senior Underwriter within their Financial Risks division,” said the announcement. “The team will soon be strengthened further by the arrival of John Orchard and David Edwards, also from Benfield. All will report to Nick Frankland, Guy Carpenter’s UK Casualty Practice Leader.”

“The addition to our team of this outstanding group of seasoned Political Risk and Trade Credit professionals reinforces our capabilities in this important market,” noted David Priebe, CEO of Guy Carpenter, London and Global Leader of the firm’s specialty units. “It also underscores our longstanding commitment to providing our clients with experienced, knowledgeable specialists who have a deep understanding of their needs.”

The bulletin gave the following professional details on the new team:
— John Orchard has more than 20 years of reinsurance broking experience in the London Market, the last 12 as Head of the Credit, Bond and Political Risk Team at Benfield. Among his many accomplishments, he developed the St. Andrews Credit, Bond & Political Risk Conference, into a biennial event supported by approximately 90 percent of the worldwide insurance and reinsurance capacity in the class.
— Mark Chappels was formerly an underwriter at Transatlantic Re, one of the market’s leading reinsurers. Prior to joining Transatlantic Re he spent five years in direct Credit and Political Risk running a team of seven brokers.
— Seamus Kerr has more than 24 years of reinsurance broking and Bond experience, across all major classes. At Benfield, Mr. Kerr was responsible for all facultative Bond placements, including aggregate utilization.
— Over a 15-year career in reinsurance broking – the last five in the area of Credit, Bond and Political Risk – Stuart Grant has considerable knowledge of and experience with the Asian and Japanese markets.
— David Edwards has 17 years of reinsurance experience, the last five with Benfield’s Credit Bond & Political Risk team, where he handled major accounts in London and the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Edwards is a frequent speaker at Berne Union/ICISA Reinsurance Market meetings.
— Richard Trueman has more than 16 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting and broking and had been responsible for a number of online, interactive credit and information systems.
