Stokes, Sexton to Lead New Marsh Energy Team

May 23, 2007

The London office of Marsh Inc. announced that it has established a dedicated Renewable Energy Team, to be headed by Susan K. Stokes and Tom Sexton as its co-leaders.

The team will work closely with Marsh’s Global Marine & Energy Practice and the Power & Utilities Industry Practice to “help clients address and find upside in the wide range of risks they face in this technologically diverse and dynamic sector.”

Stokes, who is based at Marsh’s world headquarters in New York, will be responsible for the Renewable Energy Team in the Americas while Sexton, who is based in London, will be responsible for Marsh’s Renewable Energy in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

The co-leaders will work together to “build on the firm’s already considerable expertise in renewable energy,” said the bulletin. Marsh noted that over the last decade it has been “assessing risk issues and providing related solutions for clients involved in onshore and offshore wind projects, ethanol and biodiesel plants, solar energy projects, hydro-electric power generation, wave, tidal and other renewable energy operations.”

Stokes pointed out that businesses and governments “have sharpened their focus on renewable energy, particularly as the energy industry responds to the global emphasis on developing new technologies that lower carbon emissions.” She indicated that Marsh hopes its new team will give its clients “both a framework as well as dedicated resources from multiple practices to expand our efforts to help clients address emerging risk issues in this dynamic sector.”

Sexton added that Marsh’s clients are committing more significant resources and pushing technological boundaries “to develop this rapidly growing sector,” which creates a need for “effective and innovative approaches to address their exposures. Marsh has the resources and the expertise to help them address a wide array of risks as they expand their activities in all parts of the world.”
