Mitsui Sumitomo at Lloyd’s confirmed that it is to establish branches in Dublin and Belfast as part of its expansion plans. The new operation will be headed by Alan Shiel, formerly the Ireland Country Manager at Chubb, as Managing Director.

Two additional ex-Chubb managers have also moved to the new branch. Cormac McNamara has been appointed as Underwriting Manager (Ireland), and Greg Wilde will underwrite business in Northern Ireland and Scotland. David Jenkins also joins Mitsui’s branch as Claims and Risk Engineering Manager.

The team will build the Mitsui Sumitomo brand in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

“This initiative follows the recent recruitment of Mick Turvey as Northern UK Regional Manager based in Manchester and is part of Mitsui Sumitomo’s on-going development of a mid-market presence,” said the bulletin.

Andrew McKee, CEO of Mitsui Sumitomo at Lloyd’s commented: “We are delighted to welcome Alan and his team to Mitsui Sumitomo. They are established and highly respected figures in their markets and this initiative demonstrates our commitment to delivering excellent levels of service to both brokers and clients across all our core lines of business throughout the UK & Ireland.”
