Willis Group Holdings plc announced that Mark Wilford, currently Director of Risk at Rolls-Royce Group plc, has been appointed Chairman of the Willis Global Aerospace division, effective January 1, 2012. He will be based in London and will report to Joe Trotti, CEO of Willis Global Specialties.

Wilford will replace outgoing Chairman, Andre Clerc, who is retiring at the end of this year. Willis Global Aerospace simultaneously announced two other key internal leadership changes, naming Philip Smaje CEO and Garrett Hanrahan President of the division.

The bulletin noted that Wilford is widely recognized as a “leader in corporate risk management and the implementation of integrated risk management solutions. In 2001, he joined Rolls-Royce, a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use on land, at sea and in the air.” He was responsible for the development and operation of the company’s approach to Insurance, Enterprise Risk Management, Security, Business and Program Assurance and the Ethics and Compliance activities.

Prior to joining Rolls-Royce Wilford held senior positions in Johnson Matthey plc and KPMG, in London and the United States. He is a graduate of the University of Warwick and is a Chartered Accountant.

Smaje has been with the Group since 1988 and is based in London. Hanrahan has been with Willis since 2008 and is based in Dallas, Texas.

Trotti thanked Andre Clerc for his efforts on behalf of Willis over the last 8 years, describing him as “one of the most respected and charismatic leaders in our industry,” and wished him well in his retirement.’
