Spieler to Join Catlin as Group Chief Administrative Officer

December 21, 2011

Catlin Group Limited announced that Adrian Spieler will join Catlin in February as Group chief administrative officer. He will become a member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for information technology, management information and operational support.

Spieler will be based in Zurich, but will spend considerable time working in London and other Catlin offices. He will report to Catlin Group Chief Executive Stephen Catlin.

Catlin explained that the “appointment allows Chief Operating Officer Paul Jardine to spend more time on the functions for which he is responsible, which include Claims, Outwards Reinsurance Recovery, Rating Agency Relationships, Marketing/Communications and Investor Relations.”

Spieler was most recently chief operating officer for Swiss Re’s Asset Management activities in Zurich, New York, London and Bratislava. He joined Swiss Re in 1994 and has served in a variety of roles in its management and investment functions, where his responsibilities included the build-up of a shared service centre in Slovakia; management of fund companies in Ireland, Luxembourg and Switzerland; leadership of operations and middle office functions across numerous countries; and leadership of many IT projects. He is a graduate of the University of St Gallen in Switzerland with a master’s degree in International Affairs, Economics and Law.

Stephen Catlin welcomed Spieler to his new position, indicating that he had “played many important roles at Swiss Re over the years, with a strong background in operational, administrative and technological functions. His appointment allows Paul Jardine more time to focus on the key functions for which he is responsible. Together, Paul and Adrian will play an important part in the evolution of the Group’s non-underwriting functions, which are essential for profitable growth in the future.”
