August 24, 2012

UK-based Howden Insurance Brokers announced the second phase in the development of its Energy division with the appointments of Greg Stenzhorn and Richard Bateman.

Stenzhorn will join Howden from Aon Benfield on the 15th of September, and will focus primarily on Wholesale business emanating from Europe, Canada and the USA. He has over 30 years’ experience in the Exploration and Production arena.

Bateman will join Howden from Price Forbes where he was Technical Director of the Energy Division. He also has over 30 years’ experience and brings an in-depth technical knowledge across the Upstream and Midstream classes. Prior to joining Price Forbes, he held senior technical positions at Willis, Aon and Bowring.

Alan Brooks, Managing Director of Howden’s Energy division, welcomed the two men to the energy team, noting that he is particularly pleased that “after less than a year since the launch of the division, the team is already poised for the next phase of our growth.” The two appointments “will help us continue to build on the momentum we have generated to date,” he added.

“With Greg bringing us additional depth in product expertise, and Richard bringing significant service and technical expertise, we will continue to develop both elements of our proposition to achieve our goal of progressively building a service platform that handles all classes of business in the Energy space, and that will rival any in the industry.

“The expansion of the team at all levels is important as we build the business, so I’m very pleased that we are also welcoming our first graduate recruit this month. We continue to talk to professionals looking for an environment where teamwork is an imperative and I look forward to announcing more developments soon.”

John Bennett, head of the Group’s London brokerage operations, added: “Since Howden announced the launch of the Energy division in 2011, our wholesale and reinsurance Energy portfolio has seen superb growth. We continue to build a US and internationally focused energy capability to take advantage of our global network and the synergies across teams brought to us by the recent acquisition of Windsor. I believe we are confidently emerging as a leading player in the market”.
