Swiss Re Opens French Operation for Hull and Cargo Coverage

September 20, 2013

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions announced the expansion of its Marine insurance presence in Continental Europe through the formation of a dedicated underwriting team in Paris. The new unit officially started operations in September, offering Cargo and Hull insurance products to France-based clients.

This move, coupled with the establishment of Marine underwriting teams in Genoa and Zurich last year, “further solidifies the platform Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has been building to become a leading player in the Marine insurance market throughout Continental Europe,” said the announcement.

The new team is based in Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ Paris office and is led by Pascal Dubois as Head of Marine France. He joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions from Covea Fleet, where he was Maritime and Transportation Director.

Nikolaj Beck, Head of Specialties for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, commented:
“The establishment of a dedicated Marine team in our Paris office fits very well with our global Marine strategy, as it expands our regional footprint to another key market and broadens our local offerings. Moreover, a representation in France will allow the company to access business that often does not get placed via the London wholesale market.

“France is one of the five largest Cargo markets in Europe, a market where strong technical skills, as well as top-class governance and an efficient operational platform are key factors for success,” Beck added. “We believe that we combine these elements well.”

Bruno Mostermans, France Country Manager for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, said:
“The new Marine team marks another milestone in our strategy of broadening our local offering – an effort which, coupled with our strong financial ratings, large net capacity and proven underwriting expertise, establishes us as a reliable long-term partner for our clients based in France.”
