Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford Names Soares CEO for Latin America

March 30, 2015

Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford (CGSC) announced the appointment of Ulisses Soares as Chief Executive Officer for the Latin America region, effective immediately. He “will lead all of CGSC’s business in Latin America and work with local country CEO’s in the region to acquire new businesses, recruit more top producers and enhance the brand and operating platform that support its wholesaling, underwriting management and reinsurance brokerage,” reporting to CGSC’s CEO of International Operations, Shaun Hooper.

Soares has been Chief Operating Office of CGSC Latin America since 2014. He previously held numerous major roles in the (re)insurance industry including Head of Latin America at Starr Companies, CEO of AIG Colombia and Divisional Regional Vice President at AIG. Soares takes over from Steve Jackson who steps down as CEO for Latin America to become Regional Commercial Officer after 15 years in the position, a period which saw the company experience significant growth and success in its Latin American business.

Hooper noted Soares “experience in the Latin American (re)insurance industry together with his focused and structured approach to ensuring customer satisfaction make him a natural selection as our next Chief Executive.”

He also thanked Jackson, whom he described as a “dedicated and able CEO, for his work developing the CGSC business in Latin America.”

Soares described CGSC as “already among the most successful independent (re)insurance brokerage businesses in Latin America with a strong team and local market access in the most important insurance centers in South and Central America via the Miami hub. By partnering with other parts of our global network we can further tap preferred markets around the globe and bring new products to the Latin America region.”
