RSA Names Daals as Group Chief Auditor

June 1, 2015

RSA announced that it has promoted Ralph Daals to the role of Group Chief Auditor with immediate effect. He will report to Stephen Hester, Group Chief Executive, and Alastair Barbour, Chair of the Group Board Audit Committee.

Daals will also join the Group Executive team and “will be responsible for leading the Group Internal Audit Function, evaluating the effectiveness of the organization’s risk management, control and governance framework,” said the announcement.

Daals joined RSA in early 2014 and was most recently the Chief Auditor for the UK and Western Europe. Prior to that he managed Deloitte UK’s Internal Audit services to the Insurance Industry. His appointment follows Caroline Ramsay’s decision to retire from the business to pursue Non-Executive opportunities.

Hester noted that the role Daals will play ensures that “we have effective business controls in place,” which he added were crucial and that “having a robust audit team facilitates this. Ralph has a significant amount of experience, as well as a good understanding of our business, and I’m confident he’ll successfully lead our Audit function forward.”

“I’d also like to thank Caroline for her contribution to RSA over the past eight years and wish her every success for the future,” Hester added. She will remain in the business until the end of June to ensure a smooth handover takes place.

Daals commented: “The insurance sector is changing rapidly with various factors, particularly technology, fundamentally changing the way our business operates. Audit has a key role to play in making sure these emerging risks are fully understood and managed, as well as ensuring we continue to have strong procedures and processes in place to protect the business, and I look forward to working with the team to ensure we maintain an effective Audit function.
