XL Catlin Appoints Plessis as Head of Emerging Markets

XL Catlin announced the appointment of Brendan Plessis to the newly created role of head of emerging markets. In this new position, Plessis will lead the development of emerging market strategies, partnering with business leaders across XL Catlin to explore and assess both current and new opportunities for continued growth around the world and expansion into new markets.

In this role, Brendan will help bring together the various emerging market strategies across XL Catlin, determining the best strategic opportunities for the company, and where we can achieve the greatest relevance for our clients. Plessis will report directly to Greg Hendrick, XL Catlin’s chief executive, reinsurance. Hendrick said: “In order to continue on a path of meaningful growth, we need to have a focused, strategic approach into new markets across the organization, and [by] creating this position, we’re making it a top priority.”

Plessis joins XL Catlin from Guy Carpenter & Company Singapore, where, as a managing director, he was the head of multinational and retrocession business for South East Asia, South Korea, India, China and greater China. Prior to his time at Guy Carpenter, Plessis held various senior level positions with Willis Re Bermuda, Gallagher Re Bermuda, IBL/Independent Management Group Bermuda and Aon Limited UK.

Plessis will officially start on July 8 and will be based in London.
