Qin Lu to Head Aon Benfield, Aon Risk Solutions in China

Aon announced that Qin Lu has joined the group as CEO, Aon Benfield Greater China and CEO, Aon Risk Solutions, China, to take effect later this year. The bulletin said the new appointment would “help to align Aon’s retail and reinsurance businesses in the region.”

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval in China. When that is completed, Qin will join the regional management teams of Aon Benfield and Aon Risk Solutions respectively and will report jointly to Malcolm Steingold, CEO Asia Pacific, Aon Benfield, and Sandeep Malik, CEO, Aon Risk Solutions Asia.

Qin will be based in Hong Kong. He has 20 years of industry extensive experience across Asia, and a strong track record. “In his most recent role as President of Swiss Re, China and Member of Swiss Re Asia Management team, Qin led the development and execution of Swiss Re’s China strategy to achieve a market-leading position,” the announcement said.

Qin’s prior roles include serving as the Head of Property & Casualty, China and General Manager of Beijing Branch at Swiss Re. He also served as General Manager of Malaysia Branch at Swiss Re. Furthermore, he was Client Manager for Swiss Re’s Property & Casualty business in Singapore, where he managed a growing portfolio of insurance companies and brokers.

He also served as a Client Manager and Treaty Underwriter at Swiss Re Australia in Sydney. He joined Swiss Re in 1996 as a Management Trainee, recruited from the U.S. He has a BA in Economics from Yunnan University in Kunming, China, and an MBA from Providence College, U.S. Qin is a Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.

Steingold said that as CEO for Aon Benfield Greater China Qin Lu will would “lead the next phase of our development as a market and thought leader in the Chinese insurance and reinsurance market. Our dynamic team provides Qin with a stable and talented platform from which to make further investments aimed at continuing to provide our clients with best-in-class analytics, capital advisory and reinsurance transactional support.”

Malik commented: “We are confident that Qin will lead our Greater China insurance and reinsurance business to a new level of performance and drive more synergy between our retail and reinsurance businesses. From an Aon Risk Solutions perspective, Qin will be responsible for regional oversight of our China business as we continue to enhance our client capabilities in this growing market.”
