Odyssey Re Holdings Corp. announced that it has received regulatory approval from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) to establish a representative office in China. The bulletin said, the “new office will be based in Beijing and led by Jane (Yan) Zhang.” It has been active in China for nearly 20 years.
Odyssey Re Holdings CEO Brian Young commented: “China is a strategically important and evolving market. Establishing a local presence is beneficial to our business and will allow us to better serve our clients.”
Lucien Pietropoli, CEO of Odyssey Re’s Asia Pacific region described Zhang as a “highly respected professional;” adding that she “brings a wealth of experience to our Company. With her on board, and working closely with Ow Hea Sea, our business is solidly positioned for future growth and development.”
Zhang, who will report to Mr. Ow, has more than 20 years of experience in China’s insurance industry. Previously, she served as the General Manager of Reinsurance at Bank of China Insurance Company for 11 years. She began her career at Ping An and also worked for Zurich’s Beijing Rep. Office. She holds a Master’s degree in Insurance & Risk Management from Cass Business School, City University London and the ACII designation from the Chartered Insurance Institute in the U.K.
