Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Co. (BHSI) announced it has launched a full suite of Accident & Health Insurance products in Australia and appointed Daniel Kenny as head of Accident & Health and Shaun Higgerson as senior underwriter, Accident & Health.
“The financial strength of BHSI and skill and responsiveness of our team will give us unique flexibility in tailoring A&H protection for companies and employees throughout Australia,” said Chris Colahan, president, BHSI, Australasia. “Our A&H solutions will be distinguished by our innovative underwriting and deployment of technology to enhance worker wellness and benefits, while lowering employer costs.”
BHSI’s new A&H product line includes: Corporate Travel Insurance, Group Personal Accident Insurance, Expatriate Insurance, Inpatriate Insurance, Journey Insurance and Voluntary Workers Insurance.
BHSI said its strategy in the A&H space calls for ongoing product enhancements that add tangible value for employers and employees.
For example, BHSI’s Corporate Travel Insurance provides certain emergency assistance and access to concierge services that help employees address emergencies they face while traveling or that affect their home or family while they are away, the company said in a statement.
“Keeping pace with contemporary concerns of travelers, BHSI’s Corporate Travel Insurance will provide a lump sum benefit to support travelers returning home who have witnessed or been closely impacted by a terrorist event,” BHSI said.
In addition, BHSI said it provides the ability to lodge claims online across all products along with SMS notifications to claimants throughout the claims adjudication process.
BHSI has contracted with Dynamiq, an emergency management company, to provide emergency travel, medical & security assistance along with concierge services to policyholders in their time of need. Dynamiq is part of Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and maintains 24/7 emergency operation centers in Australia and New Zealand.
Kenny comes to BHSI with 20 years of insurance industry experience. He was previously national manager, Broker Market, Accident & Health, at Chubb Insurance Co. Australia. Early in his career he worked on the broking side of the business as a senior account executive at Aon Risk Solutions in Sydney and Ogilvy & Ogilvy in Toronto, Canada.
Higgerson joins BHSI from Chubb Insurance, where he was most recently senior development underwriter. Before Chubb, he served as a consultant at FactSet Research Systems. He received his Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Finance from the University of Wollongong.
