Marsh Names South as President, US & Canada Unit; APAC, Middle East Realigned

July 25, 2016

Marsh announced that it has appointed Martin South as president, U.S. and Canada division, effective Sept. 1, 2016.

South will report to John Doyle, president of Marsh, and will be based in Marsh’s New York office. He will oversee Marsh’s U.S. core brokerage, businesses in Canada, and portfolio of U.S. businesses encompassing industries and practices.

Prior to this appointment, South served as CEO of Marsh’s Asia-Pacific region since 2013. As president, U.S. and Canada division, South succeeds Rob Bentley, who is working on strategic initiatives across Marsh & McLennan Cos.’ Risk and Insurance Services (RIS) segment, which includes both Marsh and Guy Carpenter.

A veteran insurance industry executive with 30 years of global operating experience, South previously served as CEO of Marsh Europe, and prior to that, CEO of Marsh UK & Ireland. His industry experience also includes senior leadership roles at Zurich Financial Services, where he was a member of the group management board, responsible for all of Zurich’s operations outside North America and Europe.

In connection with South’s new appointment, Marsh’s businesses in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, which previously reported to South, have been realigned into three regional units reporting to Doyle:

  • Marsh Asia. David Jacob has been appointed CEO of Marsh’s business in Asia, based in Singapore, reporting to Doyle. Marsh Asia serves clients in the world’s fastest growing region, consisting of: China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. An executive with 26 years of experience with Marsh, including 21 years in Asia, most recently Jacob served as Asia Sales and Specialty leader. Previously, he served as CEO of Marsh Hong Kong and Marsh Philippines.
  • Marsh Pacific. Scott Leney will continue to serve as CEO of Marsh Pacific, based in Sydney. Marsh Pacific serves clients in the newly configured region, which includes Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji. Consistent with Marsh’s regional realignment, Leney will now report to Doyle.
  • Marsh Middle East. Stephen Lundin will continue to serve as CEO of Marsh Middle East, based in Dubai. Marsh Middle East serves clients across the region from its offices in Bahrain, Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates. Consistent with Marsh’s regional realignment, Lundin will now report to Doyle.
