ArgoGlobal, the Lloyd’s insurer and member of Argo Group, has announced the appointment of Michael Thompson as hull class underwriter.

He takes up the role with immediate effect and will report to Steve O’Gorman, head of marine.

Thompson brings nearly three decades of experience in the marine sector to ArgoGlobal. He joins from Endurance Syndicate 5151, where as head of hull and liability underwriting, he was tasked with the launch and development of its marine portfolio. Prior to this he held the role of senior hull and liability underwriter at Swiss Re. Thompson began his career as an assistant marine underwriter for ACE London Syndicate 483. He also serves on the Joint Hull Committee and chairs the Navigating Limits Subcommittee.

“There are clear opportunities for ArgoGlobal in the marine hull sector. Michael is a recognised expert in this market and has the expertise, track record and experience to realise the advantages conferred by our group structure and international offices,” said O’Gorman.

“We will continue to strengthen our presence in the marine hull market by developing closer synergies with our international network and enhancing our specialist products to reflect clients’ needs.”
