American International Group announced that Lisa Sun will join the company as chief executive officer of AIG Insurance Company China.

Sun joins AIG from Mercer, where most recently she was CEO of Mercer’s Hong Kong & South and East Asia Zone.

Sun has more than 20 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Mercer in 2013, she worked at Zurich in a variety of positions, starting as the deputy head of Life Protection for Global Life Asia Pacific & Middle East and then later serving as head of Proposition Management and Development for Zurich Topas Life, Indonesia and Zurich Life Singapore. Earlier in her career, Sun was deputy chief actuary associate vice president for AIU Accident and Health SEA and Greater China Region; and assistant actuary for Liberty Mutual Group in Boston.

Sun is replacing Eric Zheng who is leaving AIG after 14 years to pursue other opportunities.

Sun will report to Chris Townsend, CEO, International General Insurance, and her appointment is subject to regulatory approval by the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission. She will be based in Shanghai.

Townsend said China is a “core growth market for AIG.”
