Aon Names Matson to Lead New Global Portfolio Broking Team

July 5, 2018

Andrew Matson has been named leader of Aon’s newly formed Global Portfolio Broking team – a Reinsurance Solutions unit.

Aon said the unit “will build on the success of established pioneering facilities, while developing new facilities in line with client demand for global re/insurance risk.”

In his new role, Matson will match cedents seeking additional and/or specialist capacity with carriers with a strategic appetite to diversify their current risk profile and gain access to non-correlating risks, the company said in a statement.

Aon said the Global Portfolio Broking Team’s successes to date include:

  • Marlin, the facultative reinsurance facility providing international capacity to Latin America-based cedents;
  • Landmark, which offers EMEA cedents access to global capital, and
  • Pegasus, a diversified professional indemnity portfolio for Aon’s UK retail business.

Aon said that all three facilities have secured reliable capacity for clients, while maintaining a cost-effective structure for re/insurers.

Global Portfolio Broking will work alongside the newly formed Carrier Solutions group led by Karl Hennessy. The team will deliver insights into carrier portfolio appetite, guidance on creative treaty structures, and access to diverse sources of risk capital.

Karl Hennessy, CEO of Aon’s Carrier Solutions group, commented: “‘We have enjoyed considerable success pioneering portfolio solutions on behalf of clients and carriers in recent years and Andrew’s appointment reflects both the strong demand and importance that this area of our business commands.”

Matson will continue to report to Reinsurance Solutions’ UK CEO Nick Frankland.

“Re/insurer distribution channels and the traditional value chain are becoming increasingly disrupted, and clients are demanding access to a wider range of risk and capital,” commented Frankland.

“The Global Portfolio Broking team has positioned itself to create multi-class, geographically diverse re/insurance solutions that create opportunities across Aon’s client base,” he added.

“These opportunities can serve to bolster existing capital availability, market relationships and income streams, or provide entirely new opportunities for growth, depending on individual risk appetite. In this way, Global Portfolio Broking is helping to create more robust organizations through optimizing capital opportunities for Reinsurance Solutions’ clients’ books of business,” Frankland went on to say.

As well as servicing Aon’s proprietary managing general agents (MGA), the Global Portfolio Broking team has assisted third party MGAs to shape multi-line capacity arrangements designed to align the interests of the carrier and MGA, while applying innovative technology and treaty structure.
