Beazley Taps Hawthorne, Formerly with Guarantee, as Territory Manager for E. Canada

July 6, 2018

Beazley, the specialist insurer, has appointed Jo-Anne Hawthorne as territory manager for eastern Canada.

Hawthorne will report to Cheryl Hobbs and will be responsible for developing closer relations with brokers in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, Ottawa and Quebec with a view to building Beazley’s book of business across its specialist product lines in these provinces.

Hawthorne has extensive experience of underwriting specialist insurance products in the Canadian market, including professional liability, errors & omissions (E&O) and corporate risks, and a track record of growing profitable portfolios of business.

She previously spent two years with The Guarantee Company of North America (October 2015 to October 2017) where she was national E&O product manager and senior underwriter and portfolio manager, corporate insurance, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Prior to that, she was senior underwriter and national practice leader, directors & officers (D&O), for South Western Group (October 2014 to October 2015) and manager D&O and E&O for Northbridge Insurance (October 2011 to October 2014), the profile said. She also worked at Elliott Special Risks as assistant vice president, manager D&O and E&O (October 2010 to June 2011).

In February 2017, Beazley acquired Creechurch Underwriting, a specialist managing general agent (MGA), since renamed Beazley Canada, which provides tailored insurance programs to small and medium-sized enterprises in a range of industries and professions, the company said in a statement.

Since 2017, the Beazley Canada team has expanded to offer greater depth of expertise in new target areas that include cyber risk and data breach, environmental liability and technology and media.

“We have ambitious plans to grow Beazley’s presence in Canada through existing brokers and through new intermediary relationships and across our existing product range as well as new products we will bring to the market,” said Hobbs.
