December 11, 2018

Willis Towers Watson has appointed Tom Rowley as senior vice president, North American Property, and named Matt Harvey as senior vice president, International Property. Both will sit within the Property & Casualty Centre of Excellence (CoE), which is responsible for the placement of U.S., international and UK retail risks into the London and international market.

These appointments are designed to deliver strategic market growth harnessing the extensive range of Willis Towers Watson data, analytics and technology to enable the global insurance market to provide solutions to complement local market placements, the broker said in a statement.

Rowley will be responsible for the design of a cost effective and efficient platform to bring middle-market, low-catastrophe exposed, low attrition property business in to the London market. “We have identified Tom’s unique skillset as the key to developing solutions to enable the London market to write this business, which currently does not make it across the Atlantic,” commented Angela James, head of North American Property, Property & Casualty CoE.

Gary Marchitello, head of Property Broking, North America, said: “I am delighted that working closely with our colleagues in the UK we have identified the talent and a portfolio of clients who can benefit from the long-term stability of the London property marketplace. This demonstrates our commitment to clients that we will seek out the best solutions for them regardless of geography.”

Harvey will be responsible for developing opportunities in the APAC region where he has strong connections and capabilities. He is tasked with identifying sustainable property business that can be placed into the London market for the long term as well as finding innovative solutions for hard to place risks, said the broker in a statement.

Rowley is a former senior executive at Brit Insurance with over 15 years’ experience leading a wide range of underwriting classes as well as responsibility for profitable growth and strategic development. Harvey has over 20 years’ experience in international property and was most recently at Aon where he was responsible for the design and placement of international property risks.

Garret Gaughan, head of Property & Casualty CoE, Willis Towers Watson, said: “External issues such as Brexit, increased regulation and market volatility means our global clients are facing significant challenges. We recognize that continued innovation is necessary across the London market and these two appointments will ensure we can continue to bring depth of expertise and a compelling value proposition for our clients, as well as supporting the London market capability.”
