Ryan Specialty Group Opens Barcelona Office, Focusing on Transactional Risk Business

Ryan Specialty Group announced it will open an office in Barcelona as the next step in the evolution of the company’s transactional risk business, expanding both geographically and by product offering.

This office will be led by Luc Joordens and Marta Batalla, supported by Luis Feijoo and Isabel den Hollander.

RSG’s office in Barcelona will focus on the core transactional risk products of warranty & indemnity insurance and commercial tax liability insurance, servicing brokers across continental Europe.

In a separate appointment, RSG announced that Kerry Westwell has been appointed head of Tax. She joins the company from private practice where she has spent 21 years advising clients on UK and International tax matters.

Westwell is based in RSG’s London office and will be focused on building out the tax offering across the company’s London and Barcelona offices.

And finally, the company announced that its London-based subsidiary, Hunter George & Partners, will be transacting business under the new name of RSG Transactional Risks Europe, effective Sept.1, 2019. Hunter George & Partners is a specialized managing general underwriter (MGU), focused exclusively on providing transactional insurance solutions for mergers & acquisitions.

“Hunter George has been part of the RSG family for three and a half years, so leveraging the global success of this iconic brand is a natural evolution for us as we pursue international expansion,” said Ian Theato, director of Hunter George.

“The transactional risk practice has experienced significant growth in 2019. We have hired nine experts which has expanded our team to 19 professionals, with 11 lawyers speaking five languages,” he added.
