Munich Re Syndicate Labuan Promotes Ng to General Manager and Principle Officer

James Ng has been promoted to general manager and principle officer for Munich Re Syndicate Labuan Ltd. (MRSLab). Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ng will have overall responsibilities for the Labuan operations and its business activities and will report to Celine Ang, head of Asia for Munich Re Syndicate.

Ng has 17 years of insurance industry experience, joining Munich Re in December 2018 from QBE Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd., where he was chief distribution officer. Prior to that he was head of brokers for Chubb Malaysia, where he was also a member of the executive committee.

Ng is a Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) and was awarded a fellow of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF). He earned a Bachelor of Business degree in Economics and Finance from the RMIT University, Australia and an MBA from Victoria University, Australia.

Ng succeeds Hassan Mohd Mustafa who will assume the role of director of Portfolio Management. Mustafa has been involved in the insurance industry for almost 40 years and has been at Munich Re for more than six years, concentrating on the energy and oil & gas classes of business since 1999.

Formed in 2013, MRSLab is a subsidiary of Munich Re Specialty Group, which also manages Syndicate 457 at Lloyd’s, GJW Direct, NMU Specialty and Roanoke Insurance Group Inc. MRSLab provides the Malaysian reinsurance market with a variety of classes of business such as energy, marine, engineering, financial lines, cyber, terrorism and contingency.
