AGCS Names Kang as Head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), the corporate insurance carrier of Allianz Group, has appointed Hyeji Kang as global head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management, effective Oct. 1, 2019.

She will succeed Bernhard Arbogast, who will retire at the end of May 2020. She reports to Chief Financial Officer Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre. Kang is currently head of Actuarial Function, based in Munich, a position she assumed in 2018. Kang joined the AGCS Chicago office in 2015 as chief actuary for North America.

Prior to joining AGCS she held various consulting and in-house positions in PwC, CNA Insurance and Willis Towers Watson. Kang holds a degree in economics from the Seoul National University.

Kang’s successor will be announced at a later date.

Arbogast will retire after more than 25 years of service at Allianz. He joined Allianz Group as a reinsurance underwriter at Allianz AG in 1987. After eight years working for Allianz he moved to Zurich Financial Services as group chief actuary. In 2003 he came back to Allianz as chief financial officer at Allianz Risk Transfer AG. Since 2007 he has held the position of chief portfolio officer at Allianz Risk Transfer. Since 2016 he also has been leading the AGCS Global Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management team.

Arbogast will support Kang for a handover period on his AGCS Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management responsibilities up to the end of December 2019, at which point he will step down from the Allianz Risk Transfer executive board. He fully retires from Allianz Risk Transfer at the end of May 2020.
